I do agree with Maxwell’s quote. I think vision could also be known as a purpose. Without it a leader can not be on a solid path because all their actions don’t serve a single purpose but instead are scattered. Also the elected leader will also not be able to solidly explain their actions to the people they represent.
I do agree that “vision is everything to a leader” becuase a leader’s vision is their direction and goal that they want to reach and without that a leader has nothing.
I do think that vision is everything to a leader. to a leader, a vision is a compass. it points in which direction they should go. if a leader has no vision then they are directionless and will get lost easily and the people following them will lose faith in them.
I don’t really agree with him. I think a vision is a very important part of a leader, but not all of it. Some random joe shmo can have a vision, but to be a leader you have to have the qualities of a leader. You have to be brave, charismatic, committed, good hearted and be able to follow through along with many other qualities.
I don’t agree. While visions are important to getting a road map to what you are going to do the other part of being a leader is following through with that plan. Why even have a plan if you aren’t going to do it?
Yes, I do, because to be a leader, you need to have something to lead with. This is your vision. A vision is to a leader as a wind is to a sailboat. Unless you’re one of those people that get sailboats with motors, which really defeats the point, you need a wind to sail with / on. A leader without a vision is like a sailboat with a motor and they are out in the middle of the lake and there is no wind and then the motor breaks and also they can’t sail. That’s why you need a vision, to push you along.
I believe that vision is a very important thing to a leader. You can’t go anywhere without knowing where your trying to go. It is important to have a direction and a main goal, so that everything you do has to do with that. If your doing things all over the place, you will accomplish small things, but nothing significant. I think it is important to have one larger, maybe almost unattainable goal, and everything you do is for that goal. A leader isn’t working for anything without a goal.
I don’t agree with Maxwell. I feel as if having a vision is important and that everyone should have a goal to reach for, but you cannot just say you have a vision without a way of achieving it.
I think that Maxwell was partially correct in his decleration. If one is to strive to accomplish something then they need to know what they are attempting to do. Yet if a leader has a vision and no motivation then they truly are not a leader. I feel that to be a leader one must have many varying qualities and that possesing a vision is only one of many
Well, pretty much. A leader without a vision, does not know which direction to lead. A vision is like a goal, something you can ideally see yourself, and if you can see that vision you can follow throught with it and share with others. Which then I think defines a leader, someone who has an idea, then shares with others and helps them suceed.
I partially agree and patially disagree. It is important for a team of people accomplishing something to have a vision, but the vision does not necessarily have to come from the main leader. For example, Walt Disney’s brother did most of the actual work in creating Disneyland, but it was Walt who had the vision. It is important to get a vision from somewhere and care about the vision, but the leader doesn’t have to be the one with vision.
I do agree with this statement. A vision is something that guides a leader and works as an incentive. I believe that for a leader the first step of implementing a plan of action is to begin with a vision. This can then be developed as people begin to accomplish the steps towards making this vision happen.
I do think that vision is necessary to a leader, but it really depends what kind of leader. Sometimes, you don’t need much of a vision because your role is spelled out to you, but you are still a leader, like maybe a teacher or a camp counselor. But to be a leader like a politician, who is about leading people to changes, a vision is definately going to be a big part of them – however, the vision they feel may be much different than the vision they share, and I think it takes both of those, like that a politician’s vision for themselves may be to bring together the country and lead it to a peaceful world, but he/she will have to apply to different groups’ visions to get their support, and may end up saying that his/her vision is more money toward public schools. And vision is not everything to a leader – leadership definately requires many other charicteristics as well.
i think vision is only a small part to bing a leader. i think that everyone can have a vision.mostly everybody that has a vision, should share it with someone. leaders also have many other tasks because there are many different kinds of leaders.
Not really. I think that while vision is necessary to be a successful leader you also have to be able to have a moral compass to know weather or not your vision is a good one, you need to be able to know what the people you are leading want and how to get there.
I partially agree with Maxwell’s statment. I think that is important to have a vision statement inorder to guide yourself to a goal. Yet you shouldnt limit yourself to the statment. A leader should be open to new ideas. Also a leader needs more than a vision, the leader needs a plan.
Vision is an important part of being a leader, but if you only have a vision you’re going to be a few sandwiches short of a picnic. There is more to being a leader, including being able to follow through with yor plans and being committed enough to work hard for them. Overall, i slightly disagree with Maxwell, although he was right that it is a fundamental quality a leader needs to have. .mg
For the most part I think that Maxwell is correct. I believe if a leader or anyone for that matter does not have a vision, then they are just a person walking around aimlessly. A vision gives a person a path to follow when trying to reach a goal. Along with a vision, a leader also has to have motivation, if they do not have motivation, then there is no chance that a goal will be achieved.
Sure, a good leader must have some sense of a good vision. But that’s not everything! Vision is the beginning to a good leader, the spark of the flame. Committment, communication, and the actions put into the effort are the qualities that really keep the fire strong and going.
When he said “vision is everything,” I interpreted it as without it you’re nothing. Of course you need more than vision to be an effective leader (in fact even Maxwell thinks you need 20 other things). But can you be an effective leader without vision?
Thanks Rebecca for referring back to the reading in your response. I’d like to see more of that from the rest of you…
